This weekend, to help me get ready for training to start, I did a little iTunes shopping, bought a new running skirt, bought a few new running shirts, and picked up some sunblock...I'm ready!
As I've mentioned, because of my knee issues, I have been focusing more on strengthening my hamstrings, back, and glutes and I haven't done any running with the exception of two 5Ks and a 12K so today was exciting for me...even if it was only 3 miles. (That was actually a hard part...I wanted to run longer. I say that now, check back with me at week 15 when I'll be running 40 miles that week ha ha) Ironic that the first song that suffled its way out on my iPod was by House of Pain with the following line that bascially sums up many people's view on marathon training/running, "This is the house of pain. To come inside is insane." ha ha
I've been thinking about this training a lot lately and feel like it's been a long time coming. The other night I was talking with someone about the training and about how many miles I'll run from start to crossing the finish line on Oct 13th and they were floored. I agree, 461.2 is a lot of running, but I thought about it like when I started grad school...I remember looking at all I had to do and freaked thinking it was an impossible task and I'd never accomplish it, but slowly I chipped away at it and before I knew it it was over and I realized it wasn't so bad after all.
I can't look at it as 3 miles done and 458.2 miles to go....I've got to do this training 1 run at a time. I know I'll have good days and bad, but it'll get done!
I won't blog for every run, don't worry. :)
Champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their championship character.
